What's the difference between a LIV and a LIV Pro?
Elkay states that the LIV Pro, models: LBWDC00BKC and LBWDC00WHC, have been designed for areas where the frequency of use is likely to be higher. Therefore if a Liv residential unit is installed in a commercial application, then it will not necessarily be covered under the warranty.
The Liv Pro bottle fillers do not come with a chiller, so they are not refrigerated. This is intended so that a commercial customer can purchase a chiller that suites their needs. The standard remote chiller for the Liv water dispensers is the ERS11Y, however a commercial customer could choose to purchase a different chiller that might have a higher capacity, such as the ECH8. Or a commercial company such as a gym or an office might install, say, two Liv Pro bottle filling stations in one area and service both with only one remote chiller. If you purchase a chiller for your Liv Pro, please see the note below about the filter drawer.
Due to the higher expected volume, the Liv Pro comes higher capacity water filter (3000 gallons).
The standard LIV models, LBWD00BKC, LBWD00WHC, LBWD06BKK and LBWD06WHK are designed for residential use or in businesses with more moderate use expected, like a conference room or kitchen in a smaller office, and so they come with a lower capacity filter (750 gallons).
Since filters have a 1-year expiration, it's better not to purchase a filter that has a higher capacity than what would be expected to be used in a year's time. Conversely, it would also be inefficient to buy multiple smaller capacity filters instead of one larger capacity filter in a higher-volume situation.
Why do some ezH2O LIV bottle fillers come with a filter drawer, and others do not?
This is one of the most frequently asked questions about the LIV bottle filling stations.
For all of their coolers, Elkay requires that the water flows through the filter before the chiller. If the filter is placed after the chiller, then in times when the fountain or bottle filler is not being used, the water sitting in the filter will become warm. When a person then uses the bottle filler, they will receive warm water before the cold water from the chiller makes its way through the filter.
Since the filter capacity can be twice as large as a water bottle, you may have to fill two water bottles before cold water arrives.
But it's so much more convenient to have a filter drawer under the bottle filler. Isn't there any way to do this?
Normally you would install the filter where you install the chiller, which could be under a counter or in a closet close to the water dispenser. And you would install the filter before the chiller as discussed above. If you need to change the filter, you would need to have access to that location. Yes, it might be more convenient for you to have the filter installed in the filter box mounted below the water dispenser. The good news is that you can do that! You will just need to install additional plumbing lines so that the water goes first to the filter in the box, then back to the chiller, and then back to the dispenser. Could you switch the order so you don't need all those extra lines? Yes, but it is not recommended.
If you purchased a Liv Pro or a non-refrigerated Liv residential water dispenser, then it already comes with a filter drawer. If you are adding a chiller to your system, then it is expected that you will not install the filter drawer at all. But it is otherwise available if you would like to use it.
If you purchased a refrigerated bottle filling station, then it did not come with a filter drawer. However you can purchase an Elkay part: EFBLIVSC separate filter drawer from Berl's Commercial Supply.
